A double compartment underground diesel tank, with a leaking baffle was given a new extended life with the help of a great team and Eoncoat.
One compartment had been decommissioned and the other contained diesel fuel, water was found in the compartment containing the fuel and a subsequent tank test failed the fuel tank. After the tank was emptied and cleaned, a thorough internal investigation found water leaking through the baffle wall between the two tanks, NDT thickness test showed the plate at the bottom quarter of the baffle had gone from 8mm to 3mm due to corrosion from the decommissioned side.
The site owner had no room to install a new tank and removal of the old tank was also out of the question, so a plan was put together by a number of companies working together, resulting in a new strengthened baffle being welded into the tank, prior to the tank receiving permanent protection against any future corrosion through the application of Eoncoat.
Eoncoat permanently prevents corrosion including MIC in carbon steel, it is quick curing, touch dry in 15 minutes, return to use in 3 hours. Easy to test, standard jet wash resulting in any contaminated areas coming off the substrate and allowing fast and easy remedial work to ensure complete protection.
